G is for Gallows

A pile of old newspaper clippings fills the top half of the page. One has a photo of a middle aged woman being frogmarched by the police from a day care center. Another photo depicts picketers with signs reading "Hang 'em!", "Bag the Hags", Keep Ambroseburg Safe", and Life's a witch and then they should die". An article headlined "Quinlan to witches: 'Watch your necks'" features a photo of a ribbon cutting taking place on a gallows in front of a cheering crowd. Other headlines: "Rev pleads 'Exorcise, don't execute'" and "Justice served? Afraid knot". Below, a banner in the park reads "GALLOWS DAZE". Vendors sell crystals, brooms, plush black cats, and t-shirts that read "Hang 'em!" Children eat noose-shaped pretzels from a booth called the Cheese Cauldron. A small crowd is gathered around the gallows to watch a 3-piece rock band perform under the noose.
